Jensen Loudspeakers was initially a brand based in Chicago. In the 50?s and 60?s, they specialized in amplifiers for musical instruments such as guitars and bass. However, they are now under the ownership of a parent company, Audiovox.

They?ve come a long way from half a century ago, and now have made an entirely different production. If you were to ask any audio/v

ideo electronics enthusiast 5 years ago about Jensen car audio, they would likely say they?re junk and they?re much more regarded as knock-off brands. Today Jensen specializes in the car audio and video industry as well as in-vehicle navigation. Jensen car audio have fiercely competed in the industry and have made several products that could be considered by many as top-tier quality products.

Where Jensen car audio excel is in prices, of course. However, Jensen does not sacrifice quality for the sake of lower cost. Instead, they are competing for reputation by marketing their products at a low cost. This low cost will, in turn, converts to loyal and retur

ning satisfied customers. Take for instance the Jensen?s VM 9312, a highly popular flip-out monitor that saw its debut last year. It?s still one of the most popular flip-outs and its affordability allowed to it be the most sought for in dash video unit on the market.

Of course Jensen capitalized on this and produced a wide array of different models. There are similar units with built-in HD Radio tuner, or a built-in Bluetooth interface (VM9512), which are features that render the latest Jensen car audio and video products virtually

obsolete-proof. Major brands like Pioneer and JVC are also jostling for ranking to be regarded as the best in its category. However, it appears that consumers are taking advantage of a smaller growing company like Jensen, rather than corporate giants like Kenwood or JVC.

If you?ve been looking for car audio or video products, take a look at Jensen?s product line. You?ll find some of the best features packed into affordable units rather than JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, or Pioneer expensive units. You?ll be able to find Jensen car audio products at least $100-$200 cheaper than the major brands.

Kenwood DDX512 Multimedia Player Review

The Kenwood DDX512 presents itself as a multipurpose in dash receiver. Its double DIN design features a large 6.1? LCD touchscreen display that is capable of displaying navigation information with the optional Kenwood KNS-G510 navigation module. You can watch movies, listen to your favorite CD, or even listen to your downloaded music in MP3 or WMA file formats.

What?s great about the DDX512 is the user-minded design. In other words, the unit is ready to do whatever it is you want to do. It doesn?t come high in price with features that you do not need. Instead, it is almost everything ready: Satellite (both Sirius and XM), Bluetooth, HD Radio, iPod, and iPod Video. Now all you have to do is decide what you want to do with the receiver and buy the appropriate accessories so that it is customized to your needs.

Even without additional accessories, the multimedia savvy DDX512 is capable of receiving iPod sources through its rear USB input, USB flash drives with multimedia files, as well as 3.5mm headphone jack sources. In addition, it could also receive gaming consoles like an Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 through its rear RCA audio and video inputs. You could even use the RCA audio and video inputs to plug in your rear view camera for added safety and rearview visibility. If you?re an old school rider, you may have a CD changer?don?t worry, the Kenwood DDX512 could also control and receive audio from Kenwood CD changers.

Cosmetically, the unit may not be the most attractive; but keep in mind that this is a low-cost unit that performs reliably and is packed with a ton of multimedia functions. It is in essence a basic double DIN multimedia receiver, but is protected with the Kenwood name and quality. One particularly nice thing to point out is the slot DVD input. It?s placed right above the screen so you don?t have to flip the panel off or slide it down, it simply slides in instead. The buttons are pretty average for a unit like this and features a rotary dial for volume or other audio adjustment controls.

One thing to keep in mind about this great Kenwood car audio headunit is the lack of a built-in cooling fan. Be sure to provide plenty of rear ventilation when installing and let the unit cool down from being in the hot parking lot all day before turning it on. For the most part, this versatile unit is worth the cost, especially with the ability for the DDX512 to receive GPS Navigation, Satellite Radio, HD Radio, iPod, and iPod Video sources.

Kenwood KVT-512 DVD Receiver Review

April 9, 2008

h113kvt512-f.jpeg

We live in a world now where cars and trucks are becoming more and more high tech. From back up video cameras to heated steering wheels, more apparently is better. That?s why drivers are upgrading their vehicles even after they buy one brand new. The Kenwood KVT-512 is one of those higher end after market in-dash receivers for those that want it all.

Why is the Kenwood KVT-512 so great?

The Kenwood KVT-512 in-dash is a fantastic addition to any vehicle, especially for the price (some stores in the mid to low 500?s). The screen on this in-dash DVD player is a 7? LCD motorized touchscreen. That?s seven inches of bright variable illumination that will allow the user to adjust the touch screen to the colors of the car?s interior. That?s pretty unique. If you black interior with wood trim, then customize your motorized touchscreen to match it.

One very impressive feature of the Kenwood KVT-512 is the fact that it comes ready for just about everything. Ready for your iPod. Ready for your CD changer. Ready for your Bluetooth device. Ready for navigation. Ready for your HD Radio tuner. The rear USB connection is installed so that users can direct connect their iPod to their in-dash. This is so much easier than using an fm transmitter and the sound is much clearer. Kenwood also makes available a USB-to-iPod adapter that is made specifically for the extreme heat that can come from the cars. Now a days, everyone uses an iPod for their music and the direct connect is the best way to do it. For those that don?t always use an iPod for their music, the Kenwood KVT-512 is ready for a CD changer. With local and state laws coming up soon, some of us (if not all of us soon) will be ticketed for their use of a cell phone while they are driving. That is the beauty of a built-in Bluetooth. Just sync it with your cell phone and the in-dash will take over. The KVT-512 can be used for both receiving and making calls. It is also ready for built-in navigation to help us get where we need to go. Still listen to the radio? Why not do it in high definition? Once again, the Kenwood KVT-512 comes ready for HD Radio.

To add more to the all-in-one of the Kenwood KVT-512, it also will read just about any type of disc that is put into it. Not only does it play CDs, but it also plays CD-R/RW, MP3, WMA, and AAC discs. Plus it will show the ID3 tagging on the display. That just lets you know the title of the song, the artists, the album, etc. It?s really a convenient feature. Not only does it play DVDs, but it also plays DVD?R/RW, and DivX discs. Just don?t go trying to put any Blu-ray disc into it. It won?t work.
The Kenwood KVT-512 comes with one set of extra RCA inputs in the back. This enables the use of an external unit to play. Hook up your Xbox or you Playstation and play. In addition to the extra RCA inputs, there is also an extra 3.5mm front panel auxiliary input for other MP3 players or audio devices. A feature that comes in handy a lot more than some people think.
So in today?s world of ?keeping up with the Jones?? and our ?gotta have it all? attitude, the Kenwood KVT-512 is a great way to do it all. And do it all at a reasonable price.
