PAC SWI-ECL2 allows you to retain the use of your steering wheel and rear seat radio controls when replacing the factory head unit with a compatible Eclipse receiver. Also, it retains the use of heater control buttons on GM vehicles. If you want to install an Eclipse stereo in your vehicle, but you hate to give up the convenience of your factory steering wheel radio controls. No problem, as PAC’s SWI-ECL2 interface gives you to employ the steering wheel controls in a wide variety of vehicles to command select Eclipse radios.
The vehicle compatibility with PAC SWI-ECL2 is the most important of the following vehicles i.e., Acura, Dodge, Isuzu, Mercury, Pontiac, Audi, Ford, Jaguar, Mini Cooper, Plymouth, BMW, GMC, Kia Mitsubishi, Saab, Buick, Honda, Land Rover, Mercury Saturn, Cadillac, Hummer, Lexus, Nissan, Suzuki, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Lincoln, Oldsmobile, Toyota, Scion, Chrysler Infinity, Mazda, Harley Davidson, and Volkswagen.
This PAC SWI-ECL2 sends commands to compatible head units via wires, so bright sunlight would not affect operation, like it does with infrared based interfaces, unlike the other range of SWI. It uses the resistor kit for steering wheel push buttons that does not have a resistor network connected to them. The resistor kit comprises the following resistors i.e., 47 Ohms (yellow, violet, black), 100 Ohms (brown, black, brown, gold), 150 Ohms (brown, green, brown), 560 Ohms (green, blue, brown), 1000 Ohms (brown, black, red), 1500 Ohms (brown, green, red), 3900 Ohms (orange, white, red), and 5100 Ohms (green, brown, red).
Apart from that, there is a head Unit Compatibility that interfaces its compatible with any aftermarket steering remote ready Eclipse radio that has wired remote input leads. This range of PAC SWI-ECL2 is easily programmable. It has buttons on its steering wheel, which are assigned to any of the five Eclipse functions i.e., volume up, volume down, mode, track up, and track down. That is supported by its non-volatile memory that keeps all programming in memory even if battery of the vehicle is disconnected.
PAC SWI-ECL2 has steering wheel controller that is something nice to have and this is the only way to allow one to keep the controller with an aftermarket deck. The install is very easy. Inside the package there is a link to website of PAC that tells what wire to use for your specific car, a very detail instruction on how to install it is given.
However, there are two things, which one might not like in PAC SWI-ECL2. First is the delay when you press the button. Like when you push the button to turn it up, it would turn it up in a sec or two. Second is the mode button that allows me to change from CD to radio and stuff like that. Although not much, but annoying a little bit.
