Clarion VRX585USB
June 17, 2008
The day might come when all in-dash head units have a LCD touch screen. The standard is raised as technology advances. It constantly becomes harder and harder to stay on the cutting edge of things. Clarion has developed an in-dash head unit that could set the bar for what should be standard. The Clarion VRX585USB is a slightly better than average in-dash CD/DVD player. It has many extras that help it rise to the top of the competition, yet it lacks a few features that keep it from being the best head unit on the market.
The Clarion VRX585USB is an in-dash CD and DVD player. It hosts a 7? LCD touchscreen, which is as large as any in-dash monitor. The LCD monitor is bright and clear, making watching movies or videos from a DVD or a DivX easy and enjoyable. When it comes to music, just about any format can be played in the unit. Whether it is on a CD, CD-R, or a CD-RW, the Clarion VRX585USB will read it. Whether the file is AAC, MP3, or WMA, the unit will play it. Burn it on a disc and let the head unit do the work. It will read and play just about anything. It can even read MP3s that have been burned on to a DVD. That is a lot of music for just one disc. The Clarion VRX585USB also comes with a USB cord to read and play USB multimedia. These options provide many choices for the driver and the passengers. Sometimes the two parties will not agree with one another. That?s where the 2-Zone entertainment comes in handy. 2-Zone entertainment splits the front from the back. Rear seat passengers can watch a movie while the front passengers listen to the radio. The rear seat passengers can play a video game while the front passengers can listen to an iPod. Everyone is happy in the Clarion VRX585USB. Speaking of an iPod, the Clarion VRX585USB will allow iPods to be connected directly to it. A direct iPod connection is becoming more and more common and this unit is right on target. Over all, the Clarion VRX585USB is a great unit that can fit the needs of just about anyone that is searching for a new head unit.
While the Clarion VRX585USB is great, it is not the best. There are a few features that do prevent it from being the best. First of is the lack of Navigation. More and more head units are integrating navigation into their LCD touchscreens. Apparently Clarion missed that on this model. Bluetooth is another convenient feature that was not included. In order to get that, another adapter/receiver would have to be purchased and installed. I guess that?s not such a big deal since so many people have the Bluetooth headsets, but it would be nice to have the feature. HD radio and Satellite radio were also left out. Again, not such a big deal if an iPod or CD is constantly being used. Most of these features can be found on Clarion?s higher end in-dash DVD multimedia station, the Clarion VRX785BT.
For the average person, this unit has everything that they could want, and probably some more. For those got to have it all type of people, this might not be the unit to purchase. However, the Clarion VRX585USB is a quality In-dash CD/DVD player that fulfills the needs of most everyone.
