Kenwood Excelon KAC-X542 Amplifier Review



The well known car stereo company, Kenwood has been around for a long time and now the company has come up with a new product design the Excelon. The Kenwood Excelon KAC-X542 is a class A/B model car stereo amplifier which is rated at 88 watts at 4 ohms, 270 watts at 4 ohms when bridged and 124 watts at 2 ohms. The Kenwood amplifier also includes a highpass crossover of 12dB octave which is variable from 50 Hz – 200 Hz from both the A and B channel pairs. Apart from the highpass crossover the unit also has a lowpass crossover of 24dB octave that is variable from 50 Hz to 200 Hz and the infrasonic filter of 24 dB octave at 15 Hz.

The aluminum cast chassis of the Kenwood Excelon KAC-X542 amplifier is designed with a textured flat back finish with several visual features like an intake fan above the unit. There is also a digital display with control switches and a black anodized aluminum cover that is brushed for a perfect finish over the control section. All the output and input connections of the amplifier are lined up along sides which have two amplifier fuses, remote control and power/ground terminals, Channel A and Channel B, LX-bus connector, speaker terminals, two S-video terminals, a pair of two RCA inputs and a RCA output.

The car stereo amplifier is designed with a digital display on its surface which displays the amplifier’s temperature, voltage, fan and current status. If you just scroll through the menu you will also find the EQ function for the B channels. The unit also features a bass extension function, bass EQ, volume offset and treble EQ. the S-video and LX-bus connectors let you control several Excelon amplifiers through a master amplifier. The amplifier also comes equipped with all its mounting kit and has a instruction manual that would help you throughout your installation.
