Look around your area for a lemon busters type service Auto P. I. Home of the Lemon Busters Used Car Inspections- Lemon Detector - Condition Reports - Pre Purchase Inspections - Auto Inspections

They can check any car you are interested in to make sure it's ok before you buy it.

Well first you have to check inside the hood before you buy it and make sure it has an engine after that try and turn it on because what good is an engine is it doesnt turn on then you have to make sure the brakes work then finally make sure the steeringwheel works just in case when you are driving you might have to turn the car

The most importantly is the body and chasis condition. Don't bother about the engine, you can change it at anytime.

take with you a trusted mechanic to get the overall condition of the car .
make sure that the engine is never before is opened .

A nice tip for buying a used car - buy an ex-lease car - this way you will find a car with a full history, all the parts will be from a dealer, and all the correct maintenance will have been carried out - leased cars have the cost of all the maintenance included in the lease, so even after the car is out of lease, the parts in it will all be in fantastic working order.

Ive never thought about buying an ex-lease car before - though I did think about getting one from ebay, I decided against it though, after I mailed the guy and asked him details on it, and he was very, very vague
