Default Planning your car stereo system and install

OK, so you just went out and bought a nice new Head Unit, some good components, subwoofer and perhaps even an EQ or digital processor. Time to throw it in the car right?

Not so fast! There's nothing worse than having all the seats and panels in your car strewn about the garage or yard and realizing 2 hours into the project that you forgot some simple parts for the install. If you're lucky, you have a second car, or a buddy that can take you down to the local shop or hardware store, otherwis...

I'd prefer to have the system installed by a professional...do many people install their own music systems around here? I haven't installed / heard of anyone install it themselves...

I install everything myself - but im an audio engineer - not specifically cars, more like bands and stuff, I also have a degree in electroincs, so im a bit of a nerd when it comes to these kind of things - I wouldnt trust someone to do it for me, purely because I can do it myself - and I know the way to make shortcuts - for my own systems I wouldnt make any shortcuts, but I dont know that someone else wouldnt =)

I'd suggest the first thing to do is to read up on the areas you want to know about - you say that you are going to install a new head unit and some subs, Id first set out a budget for the parts, then i'd look for parts, ebay is good, your local car parts store might be quite good also, even if its just to go in and talk to the staff - they can be very knowlegable in this area (it is their job) the most important thing to do is to not rush into it - dont just go and buy a head unit without checking it will fit in your car, and ask a lot of questions !!
