Mobile TV is a service that is provided to subscribers via mobile communication networks, the most obvious one being mobile phones and other hand held digital devices like PDA?s. It involves bringing TV services to mobile units. This combines services of a mobile hand unit with television content. It is the next level of providing visual content and is the next logical platform for consumers, operators and content providers to get onto. Mobile TV provides personalized, interactive TV content to consumers in a form specially adapted for the mobile medium. The greatest advantage of this technology is that they can watch it while on the move. They can watch it anywhere from their homes, offices, on the sidewalk, while crossing the street and of course in their car. They offer other services like video-on-demand, traditional linear and live TV programs. The also make Mobile Pod casts possible where specific content can be sent to the subscriber on demand using payment systems accordingly.
Mobile displays are the medium which makes viewing possible and they can be installed in a place of the customer?s choice. Mobile display units can be installed in one?s car. They are generally installed in the back of the front row of seats for the viewing pleasure of the back seat occupants. They can also be installed in the front panel of the car so that the driver and the front seat occupant can watch the content. The display units could be the wall-mounted variety or the more expensive pull-down type. There are a lot of choices for the consumer and the technology is pushing the frontiers constantly.
