What are component speakers?

A component speaker is a single driver unit specifically designed to reproduce frequencies in a given range. Two or more component speakers are used together in order to produce the entire sound spectrum. At least two and sometimes four component speakers are used to create an entire set. Crossovers are used to maintain the sound in a certain frequency range. This prevents the sound from getting distorted in the process of reproducing frequencies. Crossovers are basically frequency filters used to keep the components operating within their audio band.

The component speakers must be kept very close to each other to have a single point source attribute. Generally, the case is much different from what is expected. Sometimes the woofer is kept near the door while the tweeter is kept in the front corner of the front window. The tweeter is sometimes placed on the pillar that separates the wind shield from the door frame [A – pillar]. The tweeter is used to create this aural imaginary situation. The objective is that all the audio frequencies must reach one’s ear at the same time. One needs to keep features like Frequency Response, Mounting Depth, Power Handling, and Sensitivity in mind while selecting component speakers. Using component speakers provides the user several advantages, notably - better quality of sound. It also gives the user more installation options. It costs the user a bit more to complete his audio system but the advantages are worth it.
